Denis Karp – Flute

Denis Karp has been performing throughout the Baltimore/DC area for over twenty years. A native of Baltimore, Denis began studying flute at the young age of 6 at the Peabody Preparatory.  He has studied with Gail Cameron, Sara Nichols, and Doris Reinhardt.  In 1989, he performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and James Galway on a two-week East Coast tour, playing John Corigliano’s “Pied Piper Fantasy.”  In 2002, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music from Towson University.  Denis frequently records in studio as a member of The Washington Winds and performs with many groups throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.

Denis has been an instrumental music director in the Baltimore Lutheran School system and at the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School.  He currently teaches flute lessons at The Baltimore School for the Arts T.W.I.G.S. program (To Work In Gaining Skills), a community outreach program designed to provide Baltimore City’s young artists an opportunity to develop and build upon their talents in the arts by training with professional artists.  Denis also currently teaches private lessons throughout Maryland and coaches woodwind quintets for The Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Amanda Dusold – Oboe

Amanda Dusold is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Jane Marvine and earned degrees in Oboe Performance and Music Education. As a quintet fellow and student of Robert Atherholt, Amanda completed her Masters of Music in Oboe Performance at the University of Houston. She has performed with various orchestras around the country including the Baltimore, Richmond and Chattanooga Symphonies, and has also been a participant in the Spoleto Festival and the Banff Masterclass Program in Canada. Amanda currently teaches and freelances in the Baltimore and Washington DC area.

Lori Fowser – Clarinet

Lori Fowser earned her Bachelor of Music (2004) and Master of Music (2006) degrees from the University of Maryland.  She has studied with members of the National Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and maintains a teaching studio of over 30 clarinet and saxophone students in Laurel, Ellicott City, and Elkridge.  Ms. Fowser is also a busy freelance musician, doubling on clarinets and saxophones of all sizes.  She has performed in many musical theater productions and orchestras throughout the region and is the 3rd, bass, and Eb clarinetist in the Columbia Orchestra.  She plays alto sax in the Berceuse Saxophone Quartet.

Cally Messick – Horn

Cally Messick has been teaching and performing in Columbia, Maryland for more than ten years.  Prior to having children, she taught elementary band for Howard County Public Schools.  She currently operates an active French horn studio.  Her students have been selected to perform with the top student performing ensembles in the area including All Eastern Honors Band, MD All State Band, Peabody Youth Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, Howard County GT Orchestra, and the Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra.  Ms. Messick has served as the winds and brass coach for the Maryland Youth Symphony for the past two years.  As a performer, she is a permanent member of the Gallery Winds Quintet, which performs recitals throughout the year as well as hosts a chamber music camp in the summer.  She has also played with the Columbia Orchestra for fourteen years, the last six as third horn.  Additionally, Ms. Messick performed with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, Toby’s Dinner Theater Orchestra, Dundalk Community Theater Orchestra, and Spires Brass Band.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she studied with William Caballero, the principal horn of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  Prior to college, she studied with Bruce Moore of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for seven years.

Kari Shea – Bassoon

Dr. Kari Shea has performed throughout the United States and Europe with such ensembles as the Forest Philharmonic in London, England, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Opera, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Mississippi Symphony and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra.  She has also performed on chamber concert series in France, Sweden and Nova Scotia and has served as a faculty member of Millikin University and Frederick Community College. Kari holds degrees from the University of Illinois (D.M.A.), the State University of New York at Stony Brook (M.M.), and the University of Southern Mississippi (B.M.ed).
